Justice Ministry Update: January 2022

After we completed our study at Peace last fall, IMPACT members voted to focus on transportation under the issue “Care for Creation”, while continuing work on Affordable Housing and Pre-school Education. This week IMPACT’s full Research Committee will meet to review all the work that has been done on these issues. Our Justice Ministry Group at Peace will meet at 6:30pm on Thursday, January 27th, via Zoom to discuss progress on the issues and to plan for the Nehemiah Action in March. When we studied “Care for Our Common Home”, we saw clearly the need for urgent action to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to protect the people most affected by climate degradation. What we have learned from seven interviews with experts on transportation combined with that urgent need leads to two primary questions:

  1. If you could no longer use a car, how would you manage your transportation needs?

  2. Would you self-ration your use of gasoline to support the effort to save the environment?

At our meeting on January 27th, we will discuss the context surrounding those questions. For more information about the meeting, please contact Bob McAdams. We will approach these issues with humility and honesty, as we did with our study.
