Ministries

There is something for everyone at Peace!

Adult Discipleship

We encourage the people of the Peace to participate in small groups, where they may grow in faith and togetherness as they serve, support, study, and pray.

Children & Family Ministry

Living in God's amazing grace, we partner with families to reach and teach children to love God, love one another, grow in Christ, and go in Christ.

Youth Ministry

Peace offers an active Youth Group (grades 6-12). At Peace your youth will find opportunities for Christian formation, service and fun! We also participate in Virginia Synod Youth events as well as the ELCA National Youth Gathering.

Hungry Hearts
No More

Hungry Hearts No More Backpack Program feeds food insecure children attending Hollymead Elementary. Local school children, parents, and church members work together weekly to purchase, pack, and deliver the food packs.

Most of the food donations currently come from our congregation and it is our goal to get more community donations because the number of kids needing service has quadrupled and it has become a struggle to have enough food each week.

Donations are tax deductible and receipts can be obtained through the Peace Lutheran office. No child in our community should go hungry. Thank you for your support!

Justice Ministry

The Peace Justice Ministry is closely aligned with our partner ministry, IMPACT, and is currently focused on affordable housing. We participate in the listening and advocacy efforts year round, and host an annual Peace Tailgate prior to Nehemiah Action.

IMPACT is a direct action organization. They focus on addressing the root causes and the systemic reasons that people to need charity. They empower local leaders to identify community problems, develop solutions, and negotiate publicly with the decision-makers who can implement these solutions.

The Virginia Synod publishes a bi-weekly online newsletter, DO JUSTICE, lifting up God’s call and command that we, God’s people, do justice. You will find helpful info about justice ministries in congregations, around Virginia, and through the ELCA. To read it online click here. To subscribe or send in stories of justice contact The Rev. Kelly Bayer Derrick, Assistant to the Bishop at bayerderrick@vasynod.org

"The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don't, the parts we see and the parts we don't. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance. You are Christ's body—that's who you are! You must never forget this. Only as you accept your part of that body does your part mean anything."

— 1 Corinthians 12:25-30 (The Message)
