"The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don't, the parts we see and the parts we don't. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance. You are Christ's body—that's who you are! You must never forget this. Only as you accept your part of that body does your part mean anything."

SUMMER MISSION TRIPS 2019
Our Southwest Virginia Mission Team has returned from Dickinson County after repairing homes and providing support for our friends at the Binns-Counts Community Center. Our Honduras Mission Team departed on August 4 for Gerizim Church in the capital city of Tegucigalpa. The team will work alongside our Honduran brothers and sisters to provide medical clinics in urban and remote areas, as well as support the work of Gerizim Christian School.
Join the Honduras Team on Sunday, November 10 at 11:30 for a luncheon of thanks and praise. Hear testimonials from this summer's mission trip and learn about the history and impact of our congregation's relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ at Gerizim Church.
FILLING HUNGRY BELLIES ALL YEAR LONG
Peace Lutheran Church supports Hollymead area children in the “Hungry Hearts No More” backpack program, providing food for those children in need. We hope to keep their tummies full and remind them that they are important and worthy. A few families receive weekend bags, but the majority of the recipients now receive more substantial bags designed to feed a family for the week rather than a child for the weekend.
Non-perishables are welcome, particularly shelf-stable milk and proteins and fresh fruit!

PEACE ART TEAM
Alleluia! The Peace Art Team continues to enhance our worship experience with their artistic gifts. This is the "Butterfly Cross" created from our prayers that graced the narthex this past Easter. The cross was fashioned from our Christmas Tree.
PACEM 2019: Thanks to everyone who helped!
To our friends at Peace Lutheran Church:
Thank you for once again hosting PACEM’s women’s shelter in our 15th winter of helping people who are homeless in our area. We want you to know how truly blessed this community is to have congregations like yours to help in our mission to provide shelter for our neighbors in need. We greatly appreciate your willingness to prepare and serve dinner, to work with partner congregations, and for all the movies, pedicures, art supplies, and hospitality you provided for the guests in a warm, welcoming, spacious, and compassionate environment each night.
In addition to shelter, Peace Lutheran also provides generous financial support for PACEM every year. Your financial help supports the cost of PACEM’s shelter staff in your church. The graciousness of the entire PACEM Family makes it possible for us to remain open throughout the winter.
Thank you for hosting PACEM’s women’s shelter again this year, for the hands of all your volunteers, the graciousness of opening your doors, and your willingness to work with other congregations in our community to address the immediate needs of our neighbors.
People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry
The Peace Justice Ministry is closely aligned with our partner ministry, IMPACT, and is currently focused on affordable housing. We participate in the listening and advocacy efforts year round, and host an annual Peace Tailgate prior to Nehemiah Action.
IMPACT is a direct action organization. They focus on addressing the root causes and the systemic reasons that people to need charity. They empower local leaders to identify community problems, develop solutions, and negotiate publicly with the decision-makers who can implement these solutions.
The Virginia Synod publishes a bi-weekly online newsletter, DO JUSTICE, lifting up God’s call and command that we, God’s people, do justice. You will find helpful info about justice ministries in congregations, around Virginia, and through the ELCA. To read it online click here. To subscribe or send in stories of justice contact The Rev.
